Revelatory Reversal of the Diocese of Camden’s Legal Fight to Keep Court Documents Sealed Allows Baldante & Rubenstein Attorneys John Baldante and Gabriel Magee to Better Represent Survivors in Their Fight for Justice

On May 5, 2025, The Philadelphia Inquirer published “The Camden Diocese will no longer oppose a statewide investigation of clergy sex abuse, new bishop says,” an article which discusses new bishop of Camden Joseph A. Williams’ decision to reverse the diocese’s argument to keep sealed court documents closed in the New Jersey Attorney General Office’s investigation.

In the article, Bishop Williams states that he does not want to prevent survivors’ voices from being heard. “We can do the right thing by survivors to win their trust, restore their faith, and, God willing, someday maybe find them back in the communion of friendship and worship within the church,” he said. “It must be demoralizing to hear the Church preach transparency and then, apparently, to fight against the very transparency it preaches.”

Baldante & Rubenstein attorneys John Baldante and Gabriel Magee proudly represent members of the Tort Claimants Committee and have filed an Amicus Brief on behalf of NJ SNAP (New Jersey Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests) and NJCASA (New Jersey Coalition Against Sexual Assault) in support of the New Jersey Attorney General’s battle to conduct a state-wide Grand Jury investigation into clergy sexual abuse.
