Baldante & Rubenstein Featured in NJ.com Article “N.J. diocese sought to cut off an investigation into its ‘sordid history,’ abuse victims charge” On April 7, 2025

On April 7, 2025, Baldante & Rubenstein was featured in the NJ.com article “N.J. diocese sought to cut off an investigation into its ‘sordid history,’ abuse victims charge.” The article discusses the Diocese of Camden’s covert legal battle to eliminate the state of New Jersey’s efforts to investigate the Diocese’s extensive history of child sexual abuse. These secretive efforts by the Diocese were undertaken despite the Diocese of Camden recently promising full transparency and disclosure of its sexual abuse history as part of its bankruptcy court settlement.

New filings with the New Jersey Supreme Court will decide whether the investigation by a state grand jury should proceed. The Camden Diocese oversees about 500,000 Catholics in 62 parishes across Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem counties.

“The secrecy that acts of child abuse thrive upon can only be eliminated by shining every possible light on them,” John Baldante of Baldante & Rubenstein said in their amicus brief filed on behalf of amici parties, Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) and New Jersey Coalition Against Sexually Assault (NJCASA) in support of the New Jersey Grand Jury investigation.
